MTN Gear | Outdoor Apparel & Gear Retailer and Rental & Maintenance Provider
MTN Gear is a high-end outdoor apparel and gear eCommerce/brick-and-mortar retailer catering to outdoor enthusiasts. They sell across a range of categories, including ski, camping, hike & trek, women, men, kids, used gear, rentals, and repairs. They partnered with Technopath to increase online external sales through a site and UI/UX refresh and redesign, improved and clearer content that conveys the unique and varied business model, and more successful brand-based and seasonal promotions. Together, we focused on strengthening the shopping experience, streamlining management of day-to-day operations, creating a strategic marketing plan, and making it easier for potential customers to purchase. Additionally, we ensured that MTN Gear’s team can efficiently merchandise, promote, and support the storefront without friction.
THE CHALLENGE
The depth and seasonality of MTN Gear’s catalog and services are a growth engine, but they were creating complexity:
- Customers were struggling to navigate the various categories, brands, and product and service types without getting lost.
- The site didn't clearly convey its range of offerings, including new & used products, the option to demo before purchase, and services, including rentals, repairs & maintenance.
- Promotions & seasonal campaigns weren't launching quickly & consistently across the site
- There was too much UX and performance friction, including slow & cluttered product pages & unclear filters. These issues compound quickly, hurting conversions when demand spikes.
- The site was not flexible enough for merchandising
- The path from browse to product to purchase needed to be smoother & faster
